21-06-08, Bruce Springsteen in Hamburg
Well, well, well, after a rocky trip to the arena (dad forgot his ticket at my flat, I needed to sell an extra ticket), we grabbed a beer and a bun and settled in our nosebleed seeds at 75EUR a pop. The tickets were a b-day present for my dad and I am only writing this to explain that I am not a die-hard Boss-fan, just an average connaisseur who likes Thunder Road, Freehold and some other tunes.
The seats weren’t all bad, at least you could see everything and the sound was good, too. Springsteen is like an energizer bunny, performing even longer. 220 mins was the first part, then another 25 mins encore. Many hits were there, but also an impromptu part where he took suggestions from fans.

I had seen Springsteen in ‘99 on the last night of a 16-concert home stint in New Jersey, with guests like Richie Sambora, Melissa Etheridge, Jon Bon Jovi etc. That was a cool show, but the Show on Saturday was better I think. He owned the arena, rocking like 30, not like 58.
Interestingly, a lot of 20somethings were in the “mosh”-pit, so Springsteen’s legacy is sure to live on beyond the people his age. I got goose-bumps watching a little boy of maybe 10yrs groove along in the first row and having his hand shaken by Springsteen - a memory for a live-time I am sure and I hope my little boy will collect similar experiences as well.
